A MAN has suffered serious injuries after his vehicle fell from the Newhouse Roundabout onto the M48 in Chepstow this afternoon.
Junctions 1 and 2 of the M48 were closed while hydraulic cutting equipment was used to free the man from the vehicle.
A South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Chepstow and Maindee were dispatched at 1.43pm and were called to junction 2 of the M48 westbound after receiving reports of one vehicle leaving the flyover.
“There was one casualty who received injuries to their pelvis and spine. They were released from the vehicle with hydraulic cutting equipment, and were attended to by an air ambulance.
“Junctions 1 and 2 were closed until further notice. The stop message was received at 2.29pm.”
A Gwent Police spokesperson added: “At approximately 1:40pm on 26th February we received reports of an RTC on the Newhouse roundabout near junction 2. “During the incident, a vehicle has fallen onto the westbound carriageway of the M48.
“At this time, it is believed the male driver has received serious injuries and has been taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
“The road is closed whilst officers carry out their work and recovery takes place.”
