MORE than 40 villagers from Devauden and St Arvans, plus 11 entries from Shirenewton including one entry from Shirenewton Beavers and Cubs, took part in an inter-village scarecrow trail to help raise money for The Hood Memorial Hall in Devauden and St Arvans Community Plan Steering Group.

They made eye-catching scarecrows which were a delight for the adults and children who judged them while walking around the villages on Sunday 17th September.

The event was organised jointly by Hannah Marangon and  Sarah Trim who said: “This was our first scarecrow trail and joint event but it has proved to be a fantastic success so we’d definitely look to do more. We’d like to thank everyone involved, for the making of scarecrows and everyone who attended the event. We are overwhelmed with such a positive response from our communities.”

They were displayed outside residents’ homes and ranged from Donald Trump doing a handstand to Mr Potato Head, who won first prize in St  Arvans and a naval officer who came first in Devauden.

The best fancy dress scarecrow was won by Jack Brice aged five and Emily and Anna Wilson aged six and two.
