Homeworking, it appears, is here to stay with preliminary results from a study carried out by NHS Wales & Bristol University revealing th?at the attitude to homeworking in the UK has shifted since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Welsh government is actively encouraging homeworking as a long-term goal with tax relief and company incentives provided to ease homeworkers’ expenses during the pandemic assisting the transition.
Accomplished homeworking still requires discipline and negatives such as working set up and difficulties in separating home and work life have been identified as success barriers.
Enter the Shed-Office or “Shoffice” – the shed that you use as an office. While many solutions exist, a garden office really provides a dedicated work set up and separation between home and work by taking the office away from the house and even offering a tiny commute!
A garden office provides a dedicated work space and separation between home and work. Sheds are also popular with the self-employed. Scottish fibre artist Alison J Rumbles has been working from her Posh Shed near Edinburgh for nearly 5 years and swears by it, “I would describe my wee green shed like a warm hug” says Alison, “It’s an inviting space that’s inspiring to work in. I get so much joy from my little shed, it’s been a huge part of my creative story”.
Leading Posh Shed manufacturers, The Posh Shed Company have seen a surge in orders from customers looking for a garden working from home solution. Co-founder, Kay Frost said: “Our order book has increased significantly with enquiries from customers working from home. The business has had to nearly double the production workforce in the space of a year to keep up”.
The small Herefordshire company responded by launching a new homeworking build for their sheds, “Comfortably Posh”, a fully insulated and double glazed garden building ideal for working from all year round.
A total of nine designs from small “Zoom rooms” to large sheds complete with verandas offer a dedicated work space, enhancing their garden setting without encroaching on the home. Comfortably Posh Sheds are available priced from £5,257 including delivery and installation.
