GENEROUS girls and staff have donated in their hundreds for the Migrant Appeal alongside taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.

A kind-hearted idea initiated by the girls of Augusta House, the senior boarding house at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls, has resulted in an impressive haul of toiletries being collected for those involved in the current migrant crisis.

Shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes and nappies are just a few of the donated items.

Rosa Pouayoukou, a sixth form boarder involved in the appeal, said: “It started because we saw how horrific the images were on the news. You put yourself in their shoes and imagine how bad it must be not even having the basics like a face wipe.”

The collection, which contains over 150 items, will be delivered to Bridges Community Centre later in the week ready to be transported to those in need.

Julie Ann Morse, Housemistress of Augusta, said: “We have all been really humbled by the generosity of the girls and staff involved. It was a simple idea that everyone got involved in.

“The end result is fantastic.”

Augusta House also took part in the nationwide Macmillan Coffee Morning last week.

Baking and decorating over 200 cupcakes for the event, pupils and staff were treated to a cake and drink for 50p during their break times.

“It was a big success,” said Year 13 pupil Bella Lysaght.

“The queue of people was huge and the cakes disappeared so quickly.”

A total of £251.28 was raised by HMSG over the course of a morning, which will be added to the national total currently standing at over £2,000,000.
