A young motorist has denied causing the deaths of an elderly couple by dangerous driving. Taylor McDonnell, of Carrow Road, Caerwent, appeared in Newport Crown Court last Friday (19th September) to face two counts of death by dangerous driving following a collision in Ponthir last November. It is alleged that Denis and Joyce Drew, both 86, were crossing the B4326 Caerleon Road on 13th November when they were hit by McDonnell's Toyota Aygo. Mrs Drew died later that day while Mr Drew was taken to hospital, where he died on 19th November. McDonnell was released on unconditional bail and is due to face trial on 9th February.
