OVER the weekend, Caldicot Castle hosted its most popular fireworks display to date. Foggy conditions on the night lowered visibility and hampered parts of the display, but organisers and attendees declared the annual event a resounding success.
For the first time, the display partnered with national radio station Capital FM, with live entertainment provided by Matt, Polly and Geraint, hosts of the Capital breakfast show. Alongside the fireworks, there were fairground rides, a licensed bar, fire dancers and food stalls.
Complaints were posted online about a lack of parking and a large amount of people being turned away when the event hit capacity. Organisers had advised those planning to attend to buy tickets in advance, as previous successful displays and this year’s partnership with Capital FM meant the event was more popular than ever.
Dan Davies, events organiser for Monmouthshire County Council said the event was a success for those who were able to gain attendance.
“It was brilliant to enjoy such fabulous community support for yet another successful fireworks display at Caldicot Castle,” he said. “Huge thanks go to the hundreds of volunteers who played a vital part in staging the show.
“Sunday evening’s event was so popular we had to close the gates after the crowd reached capacity. Similarly, we were very pleased with our new partnership with radio station Capital FM. Some people were disappointed of course that foggy conditions limited the effect of the display, but unfortunately this was clearly out of our control.
“We will continue to work with the community and voluntary groups to develop the event and hope for better weather next year.”
The display was organised by a team from Monmouthshire County Council, Caldicot Town Council, Caldicot Town Team and local residents.
