WHAT happens to all those 5 pence pieces that shops charge us when we need a carrier bag in Wales?

This time around Waitrose has donated it to Mind Monmouthshire. 

As the saying goes ‘look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves’ really did come true as the group was presented with a cheque for £11,168.

The cheque was presented by Simon Adkins, branch manager of Waitrose Monmouth, Peter Falcini, branch manager of Waitrose Abergavenny and Alice Johnson, Waitrose Monmouth community matters partner. 

This is the largest donation Mind Monmouthshire has ever received and they intend to put the money to good use.

Their Young Peoples Wellbeing and Resilience Project will now be able to provide more one-to-one help and advice across the county plus they can deliver many more self-management courses to young people. 

With one in four people experiencing mental health problems, having the knowledge and skills to be able to manage this is vitally important. 

The cheque was gratefully received by John Matthews, the chair of Mind Monmouthshire.
