COMMUNITY spirited staff at a recently opened Marks and Spencer Food Hall in Monmouthshire have checked out £1,000 for St David’s Hospice Care.

St David’s Hospice Care is the charity which cares for people with terminal and life threatening conditions for free throughout Gwent and south east Wales.

The Chepstow Food Hall workforce took part in a range of charitable events to reach a grand total which has now been match funded by Marks and Spencer to £2,000.

Chepstow store manager Jenny Hall said: “We chose St David’s Hospice Care to be our charity of the year after a staff nomination and vote. Now, after a relatively short time, we are delighted to be able to hand £1,000 to the charity a sum which will be match funded by Marks and Spencer.”

Jenny said staff at the Thomas Street store, situated in the former Co-op, is now involved in other fund raisers to further boost the total handed to St David’s Hospice Care in the year.

Kris Broome, of St David’s Hospice Care, said: “It’s a truly brilliant total raised by the store staff- especially if you take into account the fact that during that same time they have been faced with all the trials and tribulations that go with the opening of a new food store.”
