AGGRIEVED residents of Cockshoot Lane near Howick have met with Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to try to seek answers to their questions.

Earlier this month NRW erected a fence along part of the lane which borders on Cockshoot Wood, and in January they brought in a parking charge of £120 per annum for any residents who wished to use the lane for parking.

Through the entire process NRW have been in contact with the residents but questions still remain.

Residents highlighted the newly installed fence had removed any room for passing on the lane and the fact that no improvements have been made to the road.

They were also concerned about the safety of the lane, describing how dangerous it was for cars to enter and exit.

There was also frustration over why NRW had decided to focus on Cockshoot Lane given its relative unimportance compared to the rest of NRW’s work and yet it has still not addressed certain issues with the lane.

NRW is working to provide a response to some of these concerns in the coming weeks, Steve Morgan, head of south east operations for NRW, said:“We want to work with local communities when it comes to projects like the one in Cockshoot Wood to make sure we get the best result for everyone.

“We held a very positive meeting last Thursday and it was good to hear feedback from local residents and listen to their concerns.

“We know there are some that still have questions and complaints and we are working to address these as quickly as possible.”
