WHEN community-minded, passionate bakers Ilona Watson and Fay Baxter heard the post office in Rogiet was to be replaced by a bi-weekly van service, they saw a perfect opportunity to run a weekly community café.
The new cafe is set to open next Wednesday (9th September) alongside the Post Office van service at St Mary’s Community Church Hall, Rogiet.
Run entirely by volunteers and supported by Monmouthshire County Council (MCC), Monmouthshire Housing Association through a Make it Happen grant and the local diocese, the café’s purpose is to strengthen community links and plans to help local groups by distributing their profits back into the community.
Fay and Ilona stress that the café is for everyone, a place to socialise, to find out what’s going on in the community and to recreate some of the community village life that they both experienced growing up in Rogiet.
Local groups and businesses are welcome to use the community café to publicise their activities.
Rogiet community cafe will open every Wednesday from 9am to 12pm and serve a selected breakfast menu plus homemade cakes and freshly brewed tea and coffee. The Post Office van will provide a service on Wednesdays from 9.30am to 11.30am and on Fridays from 11am to 12pm.
