POLICE will be meeting with residents and councillors from the Magor and Undy area to address an increase in crime in the area.

Organised through a Facebook page about crime in Magor and Undy, the meeting will be held on Monday 18th December at 6pm in Magor Baptist Chapel.

Councillor Frances Taylor was involved setting up the meeting and hopes that it gives residents a chance to raise their concerns and have them addressed.

“There is a Facebook page about crime in Magor and Undy and there is a perception that there has been an increase or an unusual number of incidents in recent months.

“My interest is that we support residents in having conversions with police and the local authority to reduce, prevent and mitigate further incidents.

“People’s perceptions are important and while these are very safe places we need to make sure they stay safe.

Cllr Taylor said this meeting will hopefully extol the importance of reporting crime.

She said: “Things make it onto Facebook but not into a police log and without that police can’t follow it up. Hopefully we can increase reporting and communication.

“I think there has been a desire to look at a neighbourhood watch type initiative and that is about local people getting together and having good communication.”

Police are also appealing for information about a burglary at the Co-Operative store in Magor which happened at approximately 1.50am on Saturday 2nd December.

The offenders gained access to the shop after forcing open a fire door located in the small alleyway near to the Mango House restaurant.

Once inside, they took a large quantity of cigarettes from behind the shop counter and placed these inside a yellow builders type sack. Anyone with any information should 101 quoting log 50 2/12/17.
