As part of the celebrations to mark 150 years of Monmouth RFC, 1873-2023, local schools were invited to do paintings depicting rugby in Monmouth in an imaginative way.
The club thanks the schools that were able to be involved, and the children in years four, five and six produced some wonderful pictures.
The colourful paintings are now on display in the Shire Hall, Monmouth and thanks to the very helpful staff. They are along side some fascinating pictures of Monmouth over the years.
In the last week some of the paintings have been selected to be framed by Club President Byron Hapgood, and renowned Monmouth artist and former first class rugby player Richard Wills.
Richard has many commissioned portraits of contemporary Welsh sportsmen, many hang in major institutions. His portfolio includes: Sir Geraint Evans, Viscount Tonypandy, Rowan Williams, Archbishop of the Church in Wales, Sir Tasker Watkins, Duke of Gloucester, Neil Jenkins, Cliff Morgan and Martyn Williams.
A presentation event will be arranged to present the selected framed paintings to the school children. All are invited to visit the Shire Hall and see the display of pictures. The Shire Hall is open Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 11 am – 4 pm, entry is free.
