?Various Monmouth projects were given a cash boost at the last Monmouth Town Council people and places meeting (November 8).

The cash being contributed comes from the 2021-2022 second tranche of town council community grants.

The community grants task and finish group put together a list of recommendations, which were reviewed by the committee.

At the top of the decisions, Cllr Richard Roden commented that it was disappointing that there weren’t more applications because the Town Council has adequate funding, which wasn’t always the case in the past.

The Gwent Federation of Women’s Intitues asked for eight per cent of the cost of producing a book celebrating their 100 year anniversary.

The committee felt that the project was keeping history alive and met the necessery wellbeing goals.

Cllr Roden said: “There are so few projects come up which empower women to write books like this, it’s a fantastic opportunity.”

Monmouth Girl Guides asked for 12 per cent of the cost of a trip to Switerland which was aproved.

Kymin View Primary School asked for 75 per cent the cost of a trim trail which was £4,410. The project was considered to encourage a healthier Wales and build cohesive communities.

Monmouth Male Voice Choir required a trailer to move equipment to and from their performances, they were awarded £1,875.

Ty Price community hall are looking for a part-time caretaker. They asked for £4,000 to cover half of the costs.

Richard Roden said: “Ty Price is a fantastic community asset. It’s a fantastic community asset and a major benefit to the local community in several ways.

The Monmouth breast cancer support group asked for £750 which was 75 per cent of their running costs.

The requests were granted with vocal support from the committee, community projects which might use a cash boost are encouraged to get in touch with the town council.
