USERS of the community garden at Caldicot Castle have come to together for a Christmas meal with the help of Waitrose in Caldicot.
The store’s community matters scheme provided a lunch for some of the isolated people who use the garden and some adult learners from Coleg Gwent on Wednesday 13th December.
Dawn Purkiss, a community engagement officer for Monmouthshire County Council, helps run the garden said staff from the store came over on the day.
She said: “They contacted us and asked to do a meal for the people who use the garden, about five of their staff came and helped cook lunch and presented everyone with a goodie bag.”
It was a great way to finish off the year for the users of the garden, Dawn Purkiss said they are already looking forward to getting back to work on the garden next year.
She said: “We have a lot of people who have been referred to us because they are isolated and then we get them involved in the community garden.
“We are constantly getting calls from the organisations who provide us with referrals saying how much good it does for the people who get involved.
“We are open every Wednesday and will be back open again from 19th January from 10am to 12pm, for more information contact [email protected]”
