GIRLGUIDES from the region met David Cameron while at the Royal Welsh Show last month.
The Prime Minister chatted and had photographs taken with the group of Girlguiding volunteers during his visit on Wednesday 22nd July.
More than 30 girls and seven leaders from the Gwent area were part of the team that helped out on the Girlguiding stand at the Royal Welsh Showground, which included encouraging showgoers to take part in hockey and cycling sessions in the sports arena, speaking to the public about their guiding experiences and volunteering as runners for the Judges’ Office.
Girls from Chepstow, Goytre, Shirenewton and Caldicot were around when the Prime Minister was doing his rounds, taking the opportunity to talk about the Girlguiding movement.
Molly Waters, aged 14, said: “I love being in the Guides because there’s always something new that we’re doing, like being here at The Royal Welsh Show. I’ve had such a fun week volunteering and helping out with the animals. It was great to meet David Cameron too, he was really friendly and asked us what we’d been doing and where we had been helping out.”
Hannah Lidgett, aged 13, said: “I’ve been a member of Girlguiding for three years and it’s been the best time ever.
“This was my first time at The Royal Welsh Show, it’s been lots of fun but tiring too because we’re up at 5.30am every day”
Girlguiding Gwent’s County Commissioner, Sue Kirby, said: “It’s been a fantastic week at The Royal Welsh Show.
“It’s great to see so many girls working so hard around the show ground and talking to the public about their wonderful guiding experience, I’m really proud of them.
“This week has been a new experience for the majority of them which they have enjoyed tremendously.”
