CHEPSTOW residents have helped raise more than £100 for Guide Dogs Cymru by supporting a local opticians’ cake sale and ‘dress down’ day.

Customers of Specsavers on the High Street made a donation in exchange for one of the cakes baked by a member of the team. Staff also encouraged younger customers to try their luck at the ‘pin the tail on the pup’ and ‘name the pup’ games in-store.

In total, they raised £100.56 for Guide Dogs Cymru, a charity that trains guide dogs for the blind and partially-sighted. The charity also funds educational support for children, provides guidance to families affected by sight loss and gives training to businesses so they can better assist customers with sight loss.

Ashish Sharma, store director at Specsavers Chepstow, says: ‘Sight loss has a huge impact on every aspect of daily life. A guide dog can offer those with sight conditions the chance to regain their freedom. It costs just £5 to provide a guide dog to someone with sight loss for a day, and we were keen to do what we could to support the charity’s work in Wales.

‘Thanks to everyone who dug deep and donated to Guide Dogs Cymru. We hope all of our customers had as much fun in-store as we did.’
