Monmouthshire County Council seeks your views on its Active Travel Scheme plans for Woodstock Way, Caldicot.

As part of developing the wider Active Travel network for Caldicot and the Severnside area, Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) is proposing changes to the design and traffic management of Woodstock Way to improve active travel links to and from Caldicot School, Caldicot Leisure Centre and other local destinations.

MCC's Active Travel strategic focus supports people to use active travel for short, everyday journeys. Designing community environments that make active travel convenient, safe and attractive will provide a cost-effective, healthy and practical alternative to driving, whilst improving the efficiency of the road system for those who need to drive.

The council is seeking your opinion on the first phase of the Caldicot Woodstock Way Active Travel Scheme, which will upgrade active travel paths and crossings along Woodstock Way to address safety, path quality and congestion issues.

The scheme along Woodstock Way has been developed in response to local issues and needs identified by the council and other local organisations. These needs include safer routes and crossing points for walking and wheeling.

 The scheme proposals include:

  • Redesign of the Woodstock Way road layout to include a 3-metre-wide shared use active travel path.

  • Repositioning of Gray Hill Surgery bus stops towards the pedestrian route to the town centre, away from Mill Lane junction.

  • Installation and upgrade of crossing facilities, tactile paving and signs.

Monmouthshire County Council's Deputy Leader & Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development, Cllr Paul Griffiths, said: "Providing safer walking and wheeling routes for residents in our towns and across the county is vital to making Active Travel the first choice for local journeys. If you travel in Caldicot, please complete the survey and share your views on the first phase of the Caldicot Active Travel Scheme."

The consultation is open now until September 25 or go along to the drop in session on Sept 10th between 11am and 5pm.
