THE Wye Valley Motorcycle Club has raised £4,645 for the Wales Air Ambulance (WAA) through a charity ride and auction. At the end of July the club held a charity ride from Symonds Yat to Swansea on scooters that were purchased for no more than £250 and refurbished for the ride.
Those scooters have since been auctioned off to raise the final total.
Mark Harrison from the Wye Valley Motorcycle Club said the group was thrilled with the donation despite some restrictions.
“Because we did scooters this year we didn’t get as much back but we were still able to raise quite a bit. We are thinking of going back to motorbikes next year because there will be more money.”
Last year the group raised £4,160 for WAA and Mr Harrison said they are already looking at next year.
“We are working on next year, we will keep it up and it is quite a fun thing to do for a good cause.”
The club’s link to the WAA dates back to 2013 when members were involved in a serious RTC, which without the assistance of the WAA almost certainly would have lead to a loss of life.
The significant donation was praised by WAA.
Catrin Hall, WAA Community Coordinator, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to the Wye Valley Motor Club for their continuing support for Wales Air Ambulance.
“As a charity, we rely on kind donations to help us fund our operations. Their charity challenge last year raised enough to fund over two lifesaving missions.
“Now the club is completing a challenge again for us this year, and we cannot thank them enough for their support.”
