A TEENAGE drug dealer caught with £18,000 worth of Class A drugs and Rolex watches made £62,340 from his crimes, a court was told.

But the Proceeds of Crime Act hearing at Newport Crown Court heard that Alexander Powles, 19, of Tutshill near Chepstow, had only £8,780 left in assets in the form of a car, a watch and clothing.

Judge Matthew Porter-Bryant told Powles, who was jailed for three years and eight months last May, that he must sell the assets and hand over that amount or face five more months in jail.

The convicted dealer must also pay a £228 surcharge.

In May, the court heard how he had been stopped while driving suspiciously slowly two days before Christmas.

Police smelt cannabis and questioned about whether he had the drug, Powles said: “You will find a lot more than cannabis," before listing several different drugs he was in possession of, including MDMA, ketamine and LSD.

When police searched his house, they also found knives, knuckle dusters, snap seal bags, vapes, high value clothes and Rolexes, while messages on his phone were consistent with drug dealing.

Powles, of Severn Avenue, admitted possession of drugs and intent to supply charges, plus possessing ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.

In mitigation, the court was told that Powles was "hardworking" but had begun smoking cannabis when he “fell into the wrong crowd” after leaving school.

He “started transporting small amounts of cannabis and this gradually grew,” but since his arrest had been made to "think about what’s important in his life” and had “completely stopped smoking cannabis”.

Jailing Powles, Judge Porter-Bryant said: “The messages on your phone are consistent with drug dealing, but you have disassociated yourself from the group and wish to put the drug dealing lifestyle behind you," he said.

"I am satisfied you have showed remorse.”
