MONMOUTH Cricket Club raised more than £500 for CLIC Sargent at the thrilling Gwent Macey Shield final at the Sports Ground.
Around 150 people watched Croesyceiliog lift the shield for the first time after edging out Pontymister in a gripping county final on an excellent pitch at Monmouth Cricket Club.
Croesy reached their target of 178 for the loss of six wickets with two balls to spare in one of the best finals in the history of the 34-year competition.
Monmouth Cricket Club spokesman Mike Maguire thanked all those who supported and helped out on the day to make it a huge success.
He thanked, among others, Dean and Hannah Jordan who donated sausages and burgers for the barbecue and Moore’s Bakery in Coleford who provided the rolls and baps free-of-charge.
“As well as a fantastic game of cricket, we also raised £522 for CLIC Sargent with all money from the raffle, barbecue and a bucket collection going to such a great cause.
“I want to thank everyone who helped out and supported the day. We are proud to support cricket in the area and the feedback we had from Monmouthshire Cricket Association was fantastic. It was a hugely successful day for the club and we hope to be chosen to host the Macey Shield final in the future.”
