THE high-flying Jockeys looked they were riding for a fall when bottom half hosts Risca United led 2-0 after just 23 minutes.

But Chepstow Town dug deep, pulled one back minutes later, levelled early in the second half and then fired a winner in the last minute to stay second in Ardal League South East, heralding a night of celebration in festive jumpers.

The hosts went in front on 13 minutes, when a shot saved by the Jockeys keeper was followed up and slotted home by Finley Skiverton.

And things got worse for the visitors 10 minutes later, when a ball in behind the defence was netted by Lloyd Oliver.

But Chepstow hit back within three minutes through Sonny Lewis for 2-1 at the break, and were level within five minutes of the restart thanks to a Chris O'Donnell strike.

There were chances at both ends with Risca hitting the post 12 minutes from time.

But it looked like it was going to end honours even before Josh Parsons set up Adam Wakely right at the death to keep Chepstow second on goal difference from Brecon Corries, with Treowen Stars top six points ahead.

There was double delight for Chepstow as their 2nds also won 3-1 at home to Croesyceiliog to go seventh in the South East Reserves League, Bailey Hobbs firing a brace backed by one from Ashley Palmer.

Back in the Ardal League on Friday night in a Monmouthshire derby, Goytre unwrapped all three points in a narrow 1-0 home win over Abergavenny.

In the third meeting between the two sides this season following a win apiece, it was decided by an 18th minute goal when former Abertillery Bluebirds defender Daniel Paul headed home at the far post from a corner on his Goytre debut.

Usk Town also enjoyed an early Christmas present winning 3-1 in the Gwent Premier 2 basement battle at Riverside Rovers to leapfrog their opponents off the bottom of the table and out of the drop zone.

The Green Army trailed 1-0 after just eight minutes, but levelled 20 minutes later through James Noon for 1-1 at the break.

And a Louis Quinton strike mid-way through the second half and his second eight minutes from time secured the precious three points.

Chepstow 3rds made it a hat-trick of Saturday wins for their club, walloping hosts Sudbrook CC 2nds 11-2 in the East Gwent Brian Reed Cup, Mason Haysom firing five.

And a tight East Gwent 2 battle saw visitors Tintern Abbey hold on to beat Monmouth's Rockfield Rovers 3-2, Robert Davies making it 3-1 five minutes from time after two Harry Francis first half strikes.

Tommy Tynan pulled one back two minutes later for the hosts, but they couldn't find a leveller.

Elsewhere, there was double goal delight for Redbrook Rovers' debutant Jake Teague as they hit hosts Tidenham for six in a North Gloucestershire One clash.

Also on target in a 6-1 win that lifted them to fourth were Larsson Brown, Ieuan Frost, Lewis Tyler and Gareth Clark-Williams.
