East Gwent Senior League roundup
ROCKFIELD Rovers bounced back from a disappointing home defeat to win 5-2 at Thornwell Red and White.
Rockfield’s player/manager Dave Macdonald said his players turned in a good all-round performance.
“Pick of the goals were two great strikes by Dan Lane and our other goals were scored by Dave Seymour (2) and Owen Walters,” he said later.
Undy meanwhile hit seven without reply at home to Caldicot Castle A and Underwood A won 10-2 at Tintern Abbey
“We dominated from start to finish,” Undy boss Andrew Peacock said later.
“Andrew Tucker hit a hat-trick and goals by Luke Maggs, Luke Smith, Lee Harris and Paul Duffield gave us a deserved three points.”
In Division Two, match of the day was undoubtedly Underwood B’s 18-1 demolition of Portskewett and Sudbrook – the sort of scoreline manager Craig Johnson was hoping for ahead of next Saturday’s visit to title rivals Chepstow Town.
“We have some big games – including the match at Town - over the next couple of weeks and this win will have done our confidence a world of good,” he said.
Underwood’s goals came from Ashley Edinborough (4), Callum Ford (4), Jermaine Allen (4) Sam Leighton (2) Craig Johnson, Joe Leighton, Simon Hard and an own goal.
“I would like to say a massive well done to Portskewett and Sudbrook for not letting their heads drop and playing the game in good spirit,” Johnson added.
Chepstow Town won 3-2 at Chepstow Athletic with goals by Nick Owen, Ben Roberts and Steve Smith while Sudbrook CC beat visitors Castle B 5-0.
Town’s victory was a revenge mission after they suffered their only defeat of the season, beaten 5-4 by Athletic in the Centenary Cup quarter final in October.
Finally, Sudbrook CC beat Castle B 5-0.
