ROCKFIELD Rovers secured a 4-2 win away win over East Gwent 2 basement boys Caldicot Castle 2nds on Saturday, in one of the few games to survive Storm Bert.

Two goals from Ben Johnson (12, 39 pen) put them in the driving seat before second half strikes from Tommy Tynan (52) and Ben Wiggins (59).

Monmouth Town's Gwent Premier League game at home to Sifil AFC was off thanks to a waterlogged Sports Ground pitch, while Chepstow Town also had to postpone their Ardal League home match with Brecon Corries.

Two Monmouthshire teams escaped the storm by playing on Friday night, with home wins for both Abergavenny Town and near neighbours Goytre in the Ardal League.

A thunderbolt free-kick from Harri Moyle on 14 minutes secured a 1-0 home win over basement side Newport Corinthians for the Pennies, lifting them to fourth.

And Goytre bounced back from a 7-1 Welsh Cup exit at Airbus with a 4-0 Plough Road win over mid-table Abercarn United to sit just a point behind in fifth.

Ben Williams put the hosts in front after just three minutes, doubled by Chris Parry on 22 minutes.

And two goals in two minutes early in the second half from Adam Kaplan and Lewis Iles put them in cruise control.

Another game that went ahead on Saturday saw Chepstow's Thornwell R&W secure a 4-1 win at Tredegar's Oak FC in Gwent Premier 2, braces from Owen Badham (20, 33) and Owain Westerman (55, 82) lifting them to fifth.

East Gwent 2 Tintern Abbey will be trying to bridge a three-table gap when they travel to Gwent Premier One Aberbargoed Buds in the Gwent Amateur Cup this Saturday (November 30).

Other league and cup fixtures include – Monmouth Town v Cefn Fforest, Undy 3rds v Monmouth 2nds, Brynmawr v Usk, Pontnewynydd v Thornwell, Fairfield Dev v Glascoed, Chepstow 3rds v Thornwell 2nds, Woolaston 2nds v Redbrook, Redbrook 2nds v Ruardean Utd.

Chepstow Town also travel to face Canton on Sunday.
