A MONMOUTHSHIRE golf club junior is to compete in the Mini Masters grand final at the Celtic Manor.
Ben Willis, a pupil at Osbaston Junior School and a member at Monmouth Golf Club, is looking forward to competing in the the Welsh Mini Masters, a competition which is open to all young golfers that are not members of a golf club or have recently joined a golf club but have not yet obtained a handicap of below 28.
Both Ben’s dad and granddad play golf, and Ben started swinging plastic clubs aged 2 before progressing to his first set of golf clubs aged three. Ben is also a keen all round sportsman - enjoying mountain biking and swimming as well as his golf.
Keen to do well, he has practiced hard for the event, and recently scored every golfers dream - a hole in one on a par three course during a recent holiday to France.
Ben successfully qualified 3rd out of 15 boys from across South Wales to grab a top 5 spot, and now progresses to the grand final. Ben will now go forwards for the Mini Masters Grand Final, where he will compete against players from South Wales and North Wales. It will take place on the Celtic Manor’s prestigious Montgomerie Course on 27th October, a course which has previously hosted the European Tour.
