OCTOBER half term saw the launch of Monmouthshire
Sport Development's new training
programme 'SPORT 4 LIFE'.
The project is for young people aged 10-13
years old (school year 5, 6, 7 and 8) and the
launch took place at Monmouth Leisure Centre
with 10 young people attending and learning
a number of different skills.
The idea behind this programme is to develop
the next generation of sports leaders from
an early age and to provide a variety of training
opportunities before they are old enough
to attend national governing body sport qualifications.
After this half term a variety of workshops
will be available each holiday period and this
will be rolled out across the whole of Monmouthshire
with courses taking place at all
four Leisure Centres. This is the first step on
the volunteering and leadership pathway with
Monmouthshire's Sports Development team
and is a fantastic opportunity to develop skills
such as confidence, leadership, organisation
and planning.
