AT the Welsh Schools Trampoline Championships on Sunday (29th November), held at the Monmouth Leisure Centre, three local children became Welsh Champions.
Emily Bevan from Kymin View School won the elite under 11 event, Lawrence Johnson from the Grange won the intermediate under 11 event and Robin Skailes from Monmouth School won the under 14 intermediate event.
Halle Unsworth from Llandogo Primary came runner-up to Emily in the elite event, and Tomos Rees from Osbaston Primary was runner-up to Lawrence in the intermediate group. All the above now qualify for the Central Zone Championships to compete against pupils from west and east midlands and eastern regions in the semi-finals of the British Championships.
India Marshall, representing Monmouth Comprehensive School, came second in the under 19 elite competition with an excellent score of 59.1, and Erin Williams from Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw came third in the under 14 intermediate event with a score of 46.133. These two girls also qualify for the next round.
Three teams from the Monmouth Comprehensive School also qualify for the Central Championships. The under 19 teams of India Marshall, Rose Jorgensen-Rideout and Dawn Dainty came second in the elite event, and Darcy Birkett, Zoe Lambert, Taryn Birkett and Laura Pritchard came second in the intermediate event.
The under 14 team of Kaitlyn Newman, Kirsty Maylin and Bethan Carlton came second in the intermediate competition.
Jessica Maylin from Overmonnow Primary narrowly missed qualification by finishing fourth in the under 11 novice event.
