WYE rowers moved inside to escape the worst of Storm Darragh, joining nearly 2,000 other racers from across the country and beyond at the British Rowing Indoors Championships.
And racing at the Birmingham National Indoor Arena on Concept 2 rowing machines alongside GB Olympic medallists like Paris quads champion Lauren Henry, two Monmouth RC members struck sterling silver with lung-bursting performances.
First up over the classic 2km distance, Fliss Howes stormed home second in the women's 30-39 lightweight class finishing second to Faroe Islands world gold medal star Sarita Kristina Hansen in seven minutes 42 seconds.
And she was matched by MRC club mate Lou Tanner, who raced to silver in the 55-59 open weight class in a tenth of a second under eight minutes, just behind Oxford Women's Boat Race Blue Jenny Taylor.
The Wye club’s Sue Bezani was 10th in the same class, while Phil Tilley raced home an impressive fifth in a 23-strong 60-64 men's race in 6.55.8, just eight seconds off bronze.
Former Monmouth RC junior George Coates was also seventh out of 32 in the sixth form boys 2km in 6.31.9, and fifth in the 500m in 1.24.8.
