PROMISING young fencer Olivia Barbieri has been invited to join a Wales team in a two-day event in Bath next month.
Olivia, 13 and from Rogiet, won team bronze at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on Sunday (20th March) and then heard she had been invited to the Bath event known as the Excalibur inter-county tournament.
For the purposes of the hugely popular tournament – which was first held in 1952 and is promoted by Bath Sword Club – Wales is considered as a county and has never won the tournament.
“Olivia had a great day,” her mother Jaine said.
“The event in Bath is very exciting because the person who selected her wanted to give youth fencers a chance to compete so she chose Olivia who is classed at Under14, one who is Under16 and two girls who compete in the Under18 age-group so she will gain good experience.”
