SPIRIT of Monmouth Running Club demonstrated the power of community and fitness by successfully raising £906 for the Bridges Centre through its annual Santa Fun Run, reports VICKY ROBERTS.

The event held last Christmas at the Sports Ground and Chippenham brought together hundreds of runners of all abilities and ages in support of a meaningful cause.

Bridges Centre's Marianne Piper said: “The money raised by the Santa Fun Run will be used by our Volunteering for Wellbeing Project who support hundreds of volunteers across the county.

"Our volunteers make a huge difference to the people they work with, from befriending older people feeling a little lonely, helping at numerous community groups and cafes, driving people to important appointments, supporting young people with additional needs to enter the world of work or gain confidence finding new friends or even taking people out for bike rides on one of our specially adapted bikes.

"They make a huge difference to our community and this kind donation will mean we can continue to offer them support, advice and training, ensuring they feel confident and knowledgeable in their roles.”

Race director Helen Dunn thanked Monmouth Sports Association for the use of their facilities, Terry and Shaun behind the bar, main sponsors Welsh Water and all the volunteers who made the event possible.

“It was fantastic to see so many runners coming together for a great cause," she said.

"The community spirit was incredible, and we are delighted to support the Bridges Centre with this donation,”

Club chairman Barry Burns added: "The event was met with enthusiasm from both seasoned athletes and casual runners, all eager to make a difference.

"Many participants praised the club’s efforts in organising a well-run and enjoyable race, which has now become an annual tradition.

"With the success of 2024's Santa Fun run, Spirit of Monmouth has reinforced its commitment to supporting local causes through sport, demonstrating how fitness and fundraising can go hand in hand."
