Please allow me to correct errors in a letter in last week’s edition. In ‘Beacon letters’ under the heading “Public participation should be free” the sender claims that “You reported (Beacon 9th October) that the mayor refused to take a question from a member of the public…” This is incorrect on two counts. ‘The Beacon’ did not state this, and neither did the mayor refuse to take a question from a member of the public.
On the night in question the agenda was very long, and I fully support the chair’s decision to use rules that are used by the vast majority of councils in Wales to allow meetings to move along in a timely manner.
Cllr Richard Roden (Mayor of Monmouth)
