MONMOUTH Squash Club hosted a squash exhibition match between the Welsh number five and seven recently.

The evening was organised by Club Coach Tej Saran, with the idea to bring world class squash to Monmouth, and a chance for some members to actually experience playing the pros. With a capacity crowd, the night started with the two professionals playing a full competitive high quality match which was refereed by Tej. The match itself contained unbelievable rallies, pickups and shots, and most importantly it was played in a fair competitive spirit. The most valuable lesson learnt by watching the pros was their patience and consistency of the simplest shots, which was made to look easy!

Following the conclusion of the pro match, there was Q&A session for the crowd to fire any questions they had for the pros. The evening then finished with some members of the club braving it out to play the pros for 15 minutes each.

Tej Saran said: “Throughout the night there was a great feeling in the club and the atmosphere was soon felt by the pros as they later mentioned that the clubs vibes and spirit would take us far and grow into a big successful squash club.

“A big thank you goes to all that attended the evening, the two professionals and to Monmouth Leisure centre for accommodating our needs.”

Monmouth Squash Club now has six mens teams and one ladies team who compete regularly in the Welsh leagues. Adult Club night, which is open to all new players looking to join the club, is on Thursday evening between 7.15pm and 9pm, and ladies sessions are held every other Saturday morning at 9am. The junior squash programme runs three one-hour sessions every Tuesday between 4.15pm and 7.15pm. Private squash lessons are also available every day of the week with Tej Saran, all around Monmouthshire.
